What do you understand by the term Search Engine?

A search engine can be defined as a practical tool in the modern world of computer technology; the search engine can be referred to as a computer system designed that is used to perform the search of the particular files which are stored in the database by the help of the bots or the spiders.

And when the particular search engine receives the request for any kind of information or a query from any individual, then the search engine will do an effective search in the database and display the results to the individual and the if the results consist of more outcomes. They are shown in the hierarchy, one after the other, based on their importance.

Different types of the Search Engines

The various types of Search engines, which can be classified according to the kind of information they collected, are as follows:

  • Web-page Search Engine.
  • Image Finder.
  • Video Finder.
  • File Finder.
  • And many more.

Examples of the Search Engine

The various renowned examples related to the Search Engine which are commonly used in this modern world of technology are as follows:

  1. Google: Google is an actual example of a search engine which was usually created by Sergei Brin and Larry page in the year 1996, and from then, it has conquered the world and termed to be the largest as well as the most effective search engine in the world.
  2. Bing: Another critical example of the search engine, which was owned by the team Microsoft, was formerly termed to be the Live Search, MSN Search as well as Windows Live Search.
  3. Yahoo: Yahoo is also the best and the most vital example of the Search Engine that uses the Bing engine for its particular searches.

  5. And many more etc.

Explain the concept of the Search Engines Index.

Search Engine Index: It was noted that the specific amount of web pages that are discovered by the search engine and added to the data structure is termed the index.

Furthermore, the index is primarily encapsulated with the specific or the discovered URLs (Uniform Resource Locator) with the significant number of keys (relevant keys) signals about the contents of every URL (Uniform Resource Locator), which are as follows:

  • Keywords.

  • Freshness.
  • User-engagement.
  • And many more.

Explain the working of the Search Engine.

Working on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

It was seen that Search Engines are now widely used by a massive amount of people from various countries; they make use of the search engine when they have some query and need an immediate solution to that query.

Search Engines and algorithms are more often considered to be the computer programmers that look for the various clues associated with the query and give the searcher the exact results (solutions) they are looking for on an immediate basis.

Furthermore, the respective search engines rely on the algorithms to find the web pages and decide the ranking based on the received keyword. For the smooth working of the Search Engines, there are three steps which are discussed below:

  • Crawling: The discovery stage, which means discovering the respective amount of themes and topics.
  • Indexing: The filing stage or we can say that the indexing is the stage concerned with registering in the search engine database linked to the specific essential topics.
  • Ranking: In the retrieval stage, it means sorting the position of the search results based on the particular search parameters and the associated themes in the respective database of the search engine.

Now discussing each stage in detail,

  1. Crawling: The very first step in working on the Search Engine is none other than Crawling. In this stage, the search engine sends out the web crawlers to find out the various new and existing pages on the web and then maintain their records too. And sometimes, the Web Crawler is called the "robots or the spiders”. The main aim associated with them is to discover the various existing new web pages and periodically check the available content on the respective pages that they have been visited to check whether they have been updated. And the Search Engines crawl various web pages with the help of the links that they have discovered in advance.
  2. Indexing: The next stage, followed by the Crawling, is the indexing. The search engine uses indexing to store the content from the particular web and then deliver it via the search results, which means when someone searches their query. According to their question, indexing will provide the results from the content they have stored on the various web pages. Search Engine indexes are entered by most pages but blocked and spammy, and the duplicate web pages get indexed very rarely (less chance).
  3. Ranking: Ranking is the last stage or the steps for working the Search Engine and is considered the crucial step compared to indexing and crawling. The ranking steps can only occur when the Crawling and the indexing steps are accomplished, and then, only an individual site can be ranked. Besides these, there are about 200 rankings signals that the search engines use to sort and classify the content; all of these falls under the three pillars of the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) discussed above.
